Neuromonics tinnitus treatment
Personalised music for tinnitus relief
Neuromonics uses spectrally modified music, customised to your individual hearing profile and tinnitus characteristics, to gradually retrain your auditory pathways. Backed by more than 15 years of research and clinical efficacy data, and delivered entirely by Telehealth.
How it works
Lasting relief in three steps
Neuromonics is a structured clinical program, not an app you download and hope for the best with. Each step is delivered with a Neuromonics certified audiologist.

Assessment and evaluation
Your personalised treatment profile is created by combining a comprehensive in app evaluation, including questionnaires and a calibration test, with a recent audiogram provided by a hearing healthcare professional. That profile is what the music is built around.
Personalised sound therapy
You listen to spectrally modified music embedded with custom sound vitamins for two or more hours daily through the Neuromonics app. The therapeutic sound is precisely calibrated to your hearing profile and your tinnitus characteristics, and it is recalibrated as you progress.
One on one coaching and long term relief
Over six to eight months the therapy, alongside one on one coaching from a Neuromonics certified audiologist, gradually retrains your auditory pathways. Your brain learns to filter the tinnitus signal out, which is what produces lasting relief rather than temporary masking.
The timeline
Two phases, 52 weeks
Weeks 1 to 26
The treatment period, delivered in two stages. Daily listening at two or more hours, with scheduled reviews where your audiologist adjusts the therapy as your responses change.
Weeks 27 to 52
Following the active phase, you move into maintenance, using the app for two to four hours per week or as needed. Support continues through this phase rather than stopping at the finish line.
Treatment length varies with factors like hearing loss severity, stress levels and how consistently the program is followed. Your audiologist will tell you where you sit at each review.
What comes with it
The program includes more than the sound
- The Neuromonics and Tinnitus eHandbook
- Mindfulness techniques for managing flare ups and stress

Why Telehealth matters
Available anywhere in Australia
Neuromonics is delivered entirely by Telehealth, which means the program does not depend on living near a tinnitus clinic. Patients in rural, regional and remote communities receive exactly the same protocol, the same certified audiologist support and the same review schedule as someone in a capital city.
For many of the people we treat, this is the first structured tinnitus care that has ever been practically available to them.
Two or more hours a day, broken up however suits you. Consistency is what moves the numbers. The one thing the program asks of you
Is it right for you
Who Neuromonics suits
Likely a good fit if
You find music tolerable and calming, you can commit to two or more hours of daily listening, your tinnitus is affecting sleep and mood, and you want a program you can complete from home.
We would talk you through other options if
Daily listening time is not realistic for your routine, you have significant sound sensitivity that needs addressing first, or your assessment points to a pathway that is likely to move faster for you.
Neuromonics questions
Straight answers
Is Neuromonics just listening to relaxing music?
No. The music is spectrally modified, meaning specific frequency bands are altered based on your audiogram and tinnitus profile, and embedded with a customised acoustic stimulus. Ordinary music does not produce the same effect, which is why the calibration and the audiologist involvement matter.
Do I have to listen for two hours straight?
No. The daily listening can be broken up across the day and done while you are working, reading, walking or relaxing. What matters is total daily exposure and consistency, not sitting still.
How soon will I notice a difference?
Most people notice a change in how disturbing the tinnitus feels before they notice a change in how loud it seems. That distinction is normal and it is a good early sign. Your questionnaire scores at each review will show what is moving.
What happens after the 52 weeks?
Most patients keep the app and use it as needed during stressful periods or flare ups. Habituation is generally durable, but life gets loud sometimes and having the tool available matters.
Is it funded by DVA?
For eligible DVA clients with accepted service related tinnitus, yes. Our team handles the approvals and paperwork. Call us and we will tell you where you stand before you commit to anything.
